さんまの季節ですね

The arrival of Fall in Japan brings not only cooler weather but also a variety of seasonal goodies.

日本では秋が来ると

単に涼しくなるだけではなくて

秋ならではの美味しいご馳走が

たくさん出てきます。

One of them is ‘saury’ or ‘sanma’ in Japanese.

そのうちのひとつが、’saury’ 、

日本語で言う’さんま’です。

Usually grilled with salt and served with grated daicon, saury is a family favorite, not just because it’s delicious, but because it’s affordable.

通常、塩焼きし、大根おろしを添えていただきます。

さんまはおいしいだけでなく、

手頃な価格であるという理由で、

家族みんなの大好物です。

Well, it used to be… Recently the price of saury has been going up year after year due to overfishing and climate change.

そう、昔は安かったんですよね。

最近、乱獲や気候変動により、

サンマの価格は年々上昇しています。

Let’s hope this year the price isn’t too high.
